are you listening to Christmas music yet?

You know you want to. It's okay now. Amber decreed it and Nicole & I fully concur, so at this point it's practically law. ;)

Here's a little Relient K love to get you in the mood:

what's a partridge?

and what's a pear tree?

well I don't know so please don't ask me
but I can bet those are terrible gifts to get

AFM is ending soon and once again all shall be right with the world. It was a grand night, I'm so glad I was able to make it to church. And now I must away to get a bit of sleep.

Azina... if you want to remain friends with me you will delete this post. It is, as I type this, NOVEMBER SEVENTH. As in Thanksgiving is not for THREE WEEKS. As in Christmas does not start for THREE WEEKS AND ONE DAY. If we stretch Christmas out too long, there will only be two seasons: Christmas and back-to-school. This would be a travesty worthy of sobbing and wearing black. Please, please tell me you don't actually think it's ok to double the length of the Christmas season! Please! For the sake of our friendship!

I'm kidding btw. I would still be friends with you even if you listened to Christmas music in November. I'm forgiving like that.

If Amber decrees it, it means I comply...so, I am sure I will soon join the Christmas music band wagon...
And what is the problem with prolonging the Christmas season? I have no issues with that...none, whatsoever!

Tmproff,
Haha yes Relient K is quite great, except for that kerchunk kerchunk kerchunk song about head staples on the first album. I didn't like them at first because of that. (shivers thinking about it)

Shauna,
I like you even better too! luvya! :D

Ashlee,
You should definitely jump on the bandwagon. All the cool kids are doing it. :)

Which brings me to Galen and Steve, dear boys you are speaking to a girl who started planning for Thanksgiving in July! And started making Christmas plans shortly thereafter I should note. While I think October is slightly too early to listen to Christmas music, November is quite an okay time if you ask me. This weekend Nicole & I will be buying the last of our Christmas decorations so that we will have them to put up the day after Thanksgiving. And so we can have our wreaths made before Thanksgiving. When one is making plans and buying/making decorations for Christmas no other music will do. Though just for you I will refrain from putting up any Christmas songs on the sotw page until after Thanksgiving. I was contemplating it this morning, but for you I will wait.

I really enjoy living every day of my life. I like them to come slowly, so I can savor them like a good wine. I think there's much to do and much to experience before Christmas comes around. I'm still enjoying fall. I will be happy about Christmas coming in due time. But the leaves are still on the trees, and chai tea still tastes like pumpkin pie. The world is still getting ready for hibernation. Christmas is coming, but not yet. No need to rush it.

10 weeks from now when Christmas is only another memory to most people the leaves will still be on the trees here. For me it's not about rushing it. I love the holidays and the build up and anticipation. As much as I'm ready for it to be Thanksgiving and then our Christmas party and then going home, I'm not trying to make the days slip by more quickly. For if they do all of the events I am looking forward to will be passing by like an old friend barely recognizable any more. No for me listening to Christmas music now is about savoring the upcoming season. And it's about so much more than anticipating decorating and parties and cards and gifts. It's about recognizing one of the 2 most important events in human history and celebrating God. It's fine if you don't want to start listening to Christmas music now, but this is what I choose (every year) because I love it.

And the first time
That You opened Your eyes
Did You realize that You would be my Savior
And the first breath that left Your lips
Did You know that it would change this world forever

As the original maker of the decree, I must weigh in on the discussion. (I have been absent due to the untimely death of my hard drive.)

Azina (and others) are right - it's all about prolonging what is unarguably the best time of the year. You have to start now in order to not be stressed and yet accomplish all of the wonderful things and experience all of the wonderful sights/sound/smells of Christmas. That doesn't mean Thanksgiving is ignored, it just means that it all blends together like the marvelous combination of pumpkin and coffee. To me, every day is a holiday, starting November 1st through at least January 5th (or 31st). It's a fabulous way to live, everyone should try it. (And I got my first present last night - Switchfoot concert! Woohoo!) Sorry, sidebar. And my final point is that some of us poor saps live in geographic climes which do not support any weather-related reminders of fall (or winter), so we have to create our own, like with Christmas music. (In case you were curious, it's 90 degrees today. Yeah, you read that right. Which consequently means no one can argue with me about listening to Christmas music!)

The holidays are great.....they're amazing if you have someone to share them with...

Everything is better when you have someone to share it with. That being said instead of thinking too much about the one person who isn't around to share the holidays with me (because I don't know him yet), I'm looking forward to spending the holidays with so many people I am blessed to have in my life whom I love & who love me back. My roommate and I are hosting Thanksgiving for our friends who aren't going home & I am so excited. And then I get to spend Christmas with my family including my beautiful nieces. I'd say that's pretty amazing too.

Yea I think all unsingle people have it bad. I mean, I get to spend the holidays with tons of girls, with no strings attached. What married guy can say that, unless he has a secret harem, which will probably end up getting him in a lot of trouble?
aziner said…
I think most people would probably prefer strings.
