So I just wrote this whole long thing about how some Times reviewer didn't like "The Village" and then I went on to lambaste Kerry & then all my text just disappeared. I have no idea what happened and I can't get it back, so now for the condensed version. Congratulations to the Times reviewer for living in a country where you can express your own opinions even if you're wrong. Seriously, though I doubt very many people will agree with him. Shyamalan has only continued to step up his game & he is a brilliantly meticulous filmmaker. I think the suggestion that he has "overreached" is going to be a marginal opinion. I have not seen the film yet, but once I do I will let you know what I think. Also, about living in this country, I had to comment on Kerry's speech. The one wherein he made a mass of backhanded remarks against Bush right before addressing Bush and asking that they run amicable campaigns, and then on to more backhanded remarks. He is
Steve wins the favorite person award today because talking to him last night for the first time in awhile helped ease my mind. It's always good to get advice from him. So it's fun when you find yourself working for a day. Though it is somewhat less fun when your 8 hour day starts around 2. Thus I am currently still in the office (I'm on break). But in a mere 45 minutes I will be leaving and go get dinner. If you are lucky enough to be in a city that is showing "Garden State" this weekend, go see it, you won't be disappointed & if you are then you probably just aren't cool. ;) I haven't seen it yet but Zach Braff is the coolest so I have no doubts. If you aren't in a city that has it this weekend, it will come to you soon, but in the meantime you should see "The Village" because Shyamalan is also the coolest. And if you happen to be in a city that has both, well you should of course see both. I plan on it & I don't hav
So I got the new Ikea catalog on Sunday, which is quite fun but also dangerous.  I spent a good deal of time last night sketching out what I think I want to do in my room.  I am happy with the results save for the fact that I need a budget of about $1000 to accomplish everything.  On the plus side that does include the $250 chair that I want and a bookshelf and even television, which are of course items that I can live without for quite some time.  Even so, it looks like the room will be a work in progress for quite some time.  Of course, said sketch is done largely without dimensions, as I know how large the furniture is, but only have a vague idea of how much wall/floor space I am working with.  Regardless, it is quite fun to plan and design things.  If any of you would like to create art for me to put on my walls I would much appreciate it, seriously email me and I'll tell you where to send it.  I'll even pay shipping if you want.  Anyway, my lovely computer has just warned
favorite person awards   to Shauna with whom I had an excellent conversation yesterday   and to Nate who sent me a great email today   Never underestimate the importance of email, especially when half of your friends are spread all over the country.  The bonus is it's free.  Phone calls are also very cool, but somewhat less free than email.  And see when a person writes to you and you don't have the consideration to write them back even 2 or 3 or 4 weeks later, that's just mean.  Unless of course you have talked to said person and then there is no need to write an email and divulge the same info that was divulged in said conversation.  Just one thing that really bugs me.
Today's favorite person award goes to Alex.  It is good to hear from him & I hope he can come back to LA soon.   It's fun to spend my evening imagining how I will decorate my new bedroom.  I spent time doing that last night.  I was especially encouraged after watching Oprah yesterday and it was about home decorating.  She said your home should be an extension and reflection of who you are.  I think this is true, though I fear our homes are more often a reflection of our budgets.  Here's hoping I get a job soon and can have a little money to spend on decorating.
So mainly I am writing to share with you some more quotes from Blue Like Jazz , but before I do I have a few none related comments to make before hand.   Shauna is the coolest for sending me an awesome package including Sharpies and candles and Cadbury chocolate (the best in the world) and a Care Bear.  Yay!  :)   Steve also gets props for sending me a really great email today.   And Phil too.   Now for the quotes:   “You should be sober when you make important decisions.”  (49)   “You know what really helped me understand why I believe in Jesus, Tony?” “What’s that?” “Penguins,” I told him. “Penguins?” “Penguins,” I clarified.  (55)   “Do you think God is out there somewhere?  Out there in the lumpy places?” “I think God is everywhere.”  (97)   They hang there, the stars, like notes on a page of music, free-form verse, silent mysteries swirling in the blue like jazz.  (100)   If you are passionate about something people will follow you because
Holy craptacularness   So I've been reading this book called Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller.  It is phenomenal.  I'll give you this quote for now, but when I have the book with me, be prepared for oh so much more.  :)   "Yes. We would eat chocolates and smoke cigarettes and read the Bible, which is the only way to do it, if you ask me. Don, the Bible is so good with chocolate. I always thought the Bible was more of a salad thing, you know, but it isn't. It is a chocolate thing."
los angeles is burning It in fact is, I do not merely say that because it is from a cool song. In other news, I met this guy last night who has been working in film for 15 years now. He sat and divulged to me his words of wisdom and personal experiences in the industry. It was quite a good night. We also had some good Mexican food, so you can't beat that. Anyway, not too much else to tell right now, still jobless and homeless, but let's hope that changes in the near future. By Saturday I should know if I'm at least homeful, I know that sounds retarded, but what else would the opposite of homeless be? Anyway, by Saturday I will know if I get the place I looked at last weekend or if I'll be starting all over, which is a fun time for everyone. Let's hope the job thing pans out soon because I'm bored out of my mind and because if I don't get a job I will find a hard time paying for the house if I do get it . . .
Well, I haven't blogged in over a fortnight I was gonna say that just to be a dork, but then I realized it was true. Speaking of being a dork, does it make me a dork that Jeopardy is the only show I make sure I see these days? Okay, I'm sure it does, but have you watched it lately? This guy Ken has been on there for 22 days. He's such a tool & a part of me hates him, but at the same time it is just so amazing. I think I will actually be a little sad on the day that he loses, unless he's won over 2 million dollars in which case I will be happy to see him go. And it leaves me wondering, how would I do on Jeopardy if I had the guts to put myself out there like that. Seeing as I have no money, it's becoming more and more tempting, and I have no job that I would have to ask time off of work, and if I were to make it on the show I'm guaranteed $1000 even if I'm the biggest loser they've ever seen, so the prospect is becoming more appealing . . .
