the sun is unseasonably friendly
allowing an early hibiscus greeting
I begrudge this January warmth
longing for chillier days
and snow on the beach
(though it never seems to oblige)
but I do not mind the bold presence
of this homeland flower
hearkening to simpler times
and spice scented air
