John Kerry, next president or giant douche? Okay, let's not be mistaken, whether or not he wins the election, he will still be a giant douche. Is that really who you want running your country? Sure he might be able to bring the French back, but does anyone really give a crap about that? How are they gonna help us? Last time I checked, we were the ones who had to bail their derriers out. Remember a little thing called WWII? I think the last thing we need is more namby pambies mucking things up. And to top it off, check out this site: http://www.footballfansfortruth.us/ . Do we really want a president who can't throw a football better than me?? I mean come on. Sure, I'm actually decent at the football throwing, but still. I'm kidding about that, obviously sports not too important to being a president. But that still doesn't help us with all the other flaws. And can we talk about this whole Rock the Vote campaign? It's very clever, really. The giant liberal media w...

hilarity and stolen cookies

Last night was so funny. Raj and foundmagazine.com are largely to thank. I haven't laughed so hard in quite awhile. Some of the stuff on that site was fantasitic. And then there was this wonderful quote from Raj: "you know, when I was sitting in my office this summer, I'd occasionally look up from my work and think, 'do you know how much more I could get done around here if somebody would just buy me a f-ing gong?'" Good stuff kids. If you need a context, he said this after sending me a link to a gong that only cost $160. I thought perhaps he was starting a Christmas list, but certainly that's a little out of my price range, so I put it in the back of my mind to find a smaller gong. Anyway, he told me he found that in the executive gifts section of some site. Just want every exec wants. Props to Jared & Phil for sending me great emails this weekend. Good quote from Jared: "Isn't that what art is about? A distillation of experience? Communicati...

the magic happens

December 14th, the extended edition of Return of the King will be available. Hazaa & wahoo & whatnot. 50 extra minutes of footage, you can't beat that. Went to Chinatown again last night, it wasn't any better than the first time. Seriously, my Chinese food from Panda Express is better than what we keep getting there. I should be able to go to a Chinese restaurant and order something riduculously spicy, no dice. Whatever. We also went to see First Daughter, which of course is not a very good movie as far as having a great plot or anything, but it was just a fun girlie movie & that was okay with me. Save for the worthless Chinese, it was a pretty good night, some good roommate bonding time, so that was cool.

officially California

At least in 2-4 weeks when they will be sending me my driver's license. That's right, I will be official in no time. It's kinda cool. My mom said it's just one more sign that this is permanent. I told her it was permanent anyway. Here's today's favorite quote from Raj, p.s. thanks for making me an "F-ing.A.P. or FPA or Evironmental Protection Agent or whatever I was that day." I wasn't planning on making a Raj quote section, but if I keep talking to him so frequently, there is bound to be funny quotes to share all of the time. For those of you who were not around for the beginning of the FPAs, it actually stands for F-ing Pigeon Assailant. I try to give out an FPA on almost a daily basis to the person who most deftly f's up and/or most creatively assails a pigeon on any particular day. And while we're talking about pigeons, I should really award Tyler from like 6 years ago for chasing and trying to kick all of the pigeons in Venice. One of ...

it's a good thing

Actually, it's a lot of good things, and one bad thing. Good things: 1. getting a phone call from Steve tonight, that always makes the world a better place 2. finding out that my dad is coming out here in a week and a half for a conference, so I get to see him and he is bringing me some of my stuff from home 3. pierogies 4. my new purse that was the one I wanted and happened to be on clearance at Target, yay (I needed a new purse, the other one was falling apart) 5. iced chai 6. watered down iced chai when you're really parched and are on your way home from work 7. work, even though I didn't feel like going to day, but it ended up being a good day 8. driving home from work, drinking said melted ice with chai essence and hearing God, not literally, but in this really random thought about people in the Bible who were all like, uh you got the wrong person, God. I'm the one who sits here and watches the sheep, I think you were looking for superhero-esque guy who...

shut up turtle!

Today's FPA goes to Raj because he's a good brother to me, but also because of this: "I seriously think you could put that stuff on poop & it would taste okay." We were talking about Ortega taco sauce which devastates the box. That taco sauce really is excellent & while I am not going to try the poop experiment, I'd wager to say he might be right . . . Speaking of poop, anyone catch John Kerry on Letterman tonight? You decide for yourself what that transition means, but seriously that man is a complete tool. Are you kidding me with this? Did someone change April Fool's day to September 20 and not tell me? I cannot take that man seriously & the whole trying to be cool thing is quite disingenuous.

hazaa! and un-hazaa!

First of all, wahoo! for Arrested Development winning best comedy series, best comedy writing & best comedy directing! There were 3 other technical nods that I have not been able to find out the results of, but they 3 of the big awards, so fan-freakin'tastic! The show rocks! Thanks to RV for emailing me about the win as I in fact did not watch the Emmy's. Why did I not watch them? You might be wondering. This will lead us to the un-hazaa portion of the post. And no the un-hazaa is not that I missed the Emmy's. The un-hazaa lies in the reason why I missed them. I was at church tonight which I was really looking forward to, and the p&w was good, but other than that it was not so great. And I'm actually quite upset tonight about where they are going with the program. To make a long story short(er than it could be), I had been attending this night service geared towards young adults, 18-24 & it was awesome. The church also has a 25-35 year-old service. This fall...

5 reasons why Napster is better than iTunes

Now as someone who has grown to love iTunes and who was a Pepsi drinking fiend during that whole give away free iTunes downloads business, and as someone who was not too psyched about the new Napster that took everything that was great about the old one and made you pay for it . . . I mean, uh . . . yeah, whatever all that stuff makes me qualified to tell you why Napster is better than iTunes. 1. you can listen to clips of songs! 2. better search capabilities 3. possibly more songs, though I'm not sure, maybe it just feels like it since the search function is so much better 4. better logo 5. it's the original flavor and a bonus reason in case anyone like Garret wants to be a jerk and say that #3 doesn't count since I'm not sure about it: it's not made by Apple, and yeah I'm less anti-Apple than I used to be seeing as they dominate with that whole Final Cut Pro thing, but still at my core I will always have to be anti-Apple. Yes, the use of the word co...
So I built a couch yesterday. I totally rule at assembling Ikea furniture. Although, I haven't been able to get that chair together. But whatever, I'm 3 for 4 and I managed 2 sizeable objects by myself, so I'd say that's pretty good. I cooked again last night, I finally bought some chicken as I found some that was not too expensive, so that made my day. Just made a little chicken & lo mein with that lovely stir fry sauce that I discovered last semester. Good stuff. Cooking is a good outlet for me, so I would say I've been feeling very zen of late, except I don't believe in all that zen stuff, so never mind. I was watching Will & Grace last night & they totally made a captain planet reference, it was hilarious. :) Plus they made fun of kabala, a lot, so that was also amusing. I don't know if I spelled that right, but you know what I'm talking about.

soup!

So I was messing around cooking tonight, I was just going to make burritos, but then I got into it and came up with something new. I call it Mexican Fiesta soup & I will now share the recipe with you to enrich your life. :) Mexican Fiesta soup (only fiesta because it sounds cooler than Mexican tomato/bean soup) 1 can black beans, drained 1 can refried beans half a bottle of Hot & Spicy V8 (or about 4 individual sized bottles) Put all ingredients in a pan, stir together & heat on medium or so until heated through. Don't let it boil just because that will make a terrible mess, but a nice simmer is good. Seeing as I don't measure things, the V8 is just a guess, but put enough in it to taste the tomato. If you have spices handy, you should probably add some chili powder if you like that sort of thing & I don't know anyone who reads this that doesn't. You could also add Tabasco sauce or taco seasoning, whatever you want to enhance the flavor. Cumin...

surface diving

I think I've figured out what often bugs me about talking to my parents. Whenever they call I go into defense mode, the mode wherein I expect them to know that something is wrong without me having to spell it out. For example, when they ask me how the weather is & I say the same thing every time, something to the effect of it being nice here, that's why all the people, I want them to realize that I am annoyed by them asking such a stupid question. Let's see I moved to LA by myself, have no friends and no money and they ask me about the freakin' weather!? Seriously, what is that? And I sit here complaining to you because I can't bring myself to get past the surface with them. A lot of the trouble is that when I show my emotional side to my parents they're solution is that maybe I should move home. Of course I'm gonna have bad days & of course I'm gonna cry sometimes, I'm alone out here & the world I know is changing so much, but that's...
I don't know how I feel right now. I'm in a tortured mood because I can't seem to process right now & not knowing how I feel is annoying. I hate that I don't feel like a priority to my parents. I mean, yeah they are paying rent for me as I can't but other than the money I don't feel like they're there. They call me every night which is more than I can handle & then they have nothing to say. And I have nothing to say because all I want to say is stop calling me every day, but I don't feel like I can do that because they're paying for everything including the stupid cell phone they call me on, so really they have the right to call me whenever they feel like it. But wow is it annoying. I just feel trapped right now by my parents, by money that has too much control over my life, but save from living on the street I can't do a whole lot about that. All I want to do is make movies and write and draw and learn foreign languages and learn how to ...

correction

As Garret, aka "heart," pointed out to me, there are in fact like 38 Land Before Time movies. Each one a more shameful and shoddy effort to earn a few more dollars, though I would wager that even though each of them probably only costs 29 cents to make (less than a stamp!) and sells at Best Buy for around $10, they are more than likely still losing money on this thing. Seriously, no child I know is begging his parents for LBT 38: Sharp Tooth vs. Mothra. Anyway, I just wanted to point out that in my last post I was only referring to the first Land Before Time, the only one that deserves to be called LBT, much in the same way that the first Matrix is the only one that deserves to be called the Matrix. I am still trying to block those wannabe sequels from my memory. Anyway, I must admit to having seen at least through part 4 of the LBT series, it's become a blur of crap & bad tunes, though the 2nd part isn't quite as horrendous as say Reloaded. It's kind of like ...
I was talking to Phil the other day about animated films which of course covered Miyazaki and Disney, but I completely forgot about the best animated film ever made, that being Land Before Time of course! I need to find that on dvd, I know I've seen it. Anyway, that was such a fantastic movie. Anastasia is another good one that I forgot to mention. That used to be one of my favorite movies. It's weird how you can forget stuff that you used to love so much. Anyway, the reason I remembered LBT is that I set Windows Media Player to play anything off of a soundtrack this morning as I knew that would give me a delightful selection of music. And it did, ranging from Simon & Garfunkel to Eminem. So as the songs are playing, "If We Hold on Together" by Diana Ross starts playing, that being the song that plays during the credits of LBT. I love that song & it's a part of my childhood, so guess what! You get to see the lyrics now. Enjoy & have a great ...

per the comments

Indeed happy Friday to all. Thank you, Shauna. And thank you Garret for seconding that. I must say that I am impressed that you managed to post a comment that started off nice and was not summarily twisted into some kind of heinous insult. Are you losing your touch? The Garret has finally succumbed to his true kind self. Who thought the day would ever arrive? Of course, since you managed to be so kind I will not comment about how ridiculous and slightly pompous it is that you refer to yourself as The Garret. See how I snuck that in there like that pretending like I was gonna be nice. I learned that from you, either that or you just really bring it out in me. Anyhow, I hate to disappoint you, but I'm not sure that our friends Nate & Jared read this here blog, if they do they have never commented on it to me, though I have given them the link, so perhaps they enjoy and then go about their lives trying to forget the pain it causes them to be reminded so frequently that we are all ...

big fluffy white clouds!

Don't judge me for being excited about that, we don't get them too often here in LA. Usually the only fluffy looking thing in the sky is billowing plumes of smoke, which are less exciting as it means people are risking their lives to help stupid people who built their crap in the fire plain. Anyway, I realized I hadn't blogged in 2 1/2 days, which of course means that I haven't given away any FPAs nor talked about Garden State in as long. All tragic things of course. Pretty much everyone I know deserves an FPA right now, so if you're a cool person and I like you then consider yourself awarded this week. :) Job thing still up in the air, but I have been doing some part-time/temp/potential permanent job stuff which means getting paid, so yay for that one. Hopefully having another interview next week, though, so we'll see what happens. It's funny how you can go from nothing to practically having offers out the wazoo. Okay maybe not to that extent really, ...
I had a great interview today. I'm actually supposed to be writing a script coverage right now as sort of a part of the interview process still. Normally, writing coverage is no big deal, but when landing the job depends on it, it's a bit more stressful. I only have 30 pages left of the script to read & it just now has piqued my interest. It's midnight, I probably should have started earlier instead of watching the "Secret Life Of . . ." marathon all day. Though, in my defense, I worked on almost all the shows they aired today, so I wanted to see how they turned out. Oh, coverage by the way is summarizing a script into 2 pages max & then giving your commentary & recommendation as to whether this is a project you think is worth pursuing. Nine times out of 10, no big deal as most scripts are complete crap. Anyway, I'm actually working tomorrow. The woman I interviewed with this morning called me this afternoon & said while she still has to wait t...

free stuff = hazaa!

So last night there was this Garden State meetup (supposed to be one word) thing. I think it was supposed to happen across the nation & really I'm a huge fan but I find it a little creepy to meet up with people you don't know just because you like the same movie. I don't know, it's just weird to me. Anyway, I found out though that the guy organizing the meetup in Santa Monica, 15 minutes from my house in the direction of the beach for those who don't know the area, was organized by a guy from Fox Searchlight. A guy who just happened to be bringing posters and cds. So we went to this cool old theater in SM & when we got there this guy gave us posters, which was cool, but as we all know my real desire was for a soundtrack. So I ended up talking to this guy and just asking if he had any info about it as it has been sold out everywhere. After talking to him for a bit he reached in his magical bag & handed me a copy of the soundtrack! Hazaa! Yes, the...
On Sunday I got a call from my friend Nick. He wished me luck out here & said that this was going to be my week. While I did not get a job this week, for the first time I had some form of confirmation that coming out here was not the worst decision ever. I have received 5 phone calls about jobs this week. I have gone on 2 interviews & have another one on Monday. Some of you might be thinking, how is that progress? Until this week I had not gotten a call back on any of the resumes I had sent out & the only interview I had had was not even remotely related to film. Plus, one of the interviews I had this week made me feel great because the woman said that she thought I would be a good fit for the producers. Now I haven't gotten a call back on this job, but I am so okay with that. Why? Because I got what I needed out of the interview, encouragement. And the job is not paid and it is in Woodland Hills. Those of you who went to the Indian restaurant for my birthday will note ...
Today's FPA goes to Shauna who is so awesome plus props for being the only one to utilize the new comments feature on the blog. Today has been a good day. If you are reading this before 10 am on Thursday then please pray for me as I have an interview! If you are reading this after 10 am, then pray that you will soon be hearing joyful job news from me. In other good news, I talked to Phil today which was pretty cool. It's been awhile since I've talked to him on the phone, though we have been corresponding through email. To all of those whom I owe emails, they will be coming soon I promise. Have a happy Thursday everyone! Enjoy the beginning of September. For those in college, enjoy it, it's a pretty good gig. :) been feeling the Oasis flavor lately, here's a little sample for everyone: "May your smile Shine on Don’t be scared Your destiny may keep you warm" no flying monkeys sited this evening, so you're all safe

people I miss

So I actually had a pretty good day today, so this isn't a sad post so much as a I miss seeing these really cool people on a daily basis who make my life so happy post. You still make my life happy, I just would like to see your wonderful faces more often. :) Okay I have to interrupt this post for a moment to comment on the helicopter that seems to be circling the area which makes me only wonder if some bad guy is wandering my streets, not an altogether comforting feeling as I near bedtime . . . I miss . . . Shauna: she made LA what is was, she is my kindred spirit & a dear friend. I miss just hanging out with you & drinking chai. On the 31st of August I like you! RV: she is the coolest roommate ever & I quite enjoyed our Hand & Foot tournaments, what was our record, 300? crazy stuff, but always fun. and our midnight Return of the King trip, that was great & I'm glad we got to experience it together the brothers: these are cool kids with a crazy sense of hum...
